In 1983, Lisa began her acting career on television by appearing in the American medical drama and black comedy series St. Elsewhere. The following year, in 1984, she got her big break when she was cast as Denise Huxtable in the popular American sitcom The Cosby Show, which starred Bill Cosby.
Her outstanding performance on The Cosby Show earned her nominations for both an Emmy Award and a Young Artist Award. Lisa also appeared in the movie Angel Heart, where she was involved in explicit scenes with actor Mickey Rourke. At the 9th Youth in Film Awards, she won the Young Artist Award for Best Young Female Superstar in Motion Pictures.
