Career / Fashion And Style
He began his career by enlisting in the US Air Force and receiving training as a radar technician. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. Following his military service, he ventured into the world of radio and secured a position as a DJ at the radio station KJOE. In 1959, he teamed up with Jack Burns to form a comedy duo. The pair relocated to California in 1960 and achieved remarkable success when they established a popular morning show on KDAY.
Their sole album, titled “Burns and Carlin at the Playboy Club Tonight,” was recorded in May 1960 at the renowned Cosmo Alley in Hollywood. However, their partnership disbanded in approximately 1962 as they chose to focus on their respective solo careers. Throughout the 1960s, one of them started making regular appearances on different television programs and eventually became a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show.
Throughout his three-decade tenure, he emerged as one of the regular replacements for host Johnny Carson. Over the years, he solidified his position in the entertainment industry, appearing in a multitude of movies and television series. In 1967, he marked his solo music debut with the album “Take-Offs and Put-Ons.”
Following that, he unveiled fourteen HBO comedy specials and released 19 solo albums. Additionally, he made guest appearances in numerous movies and television series. In 1987, he took on a supporting role in the comedy film Outrageous Fortune. Between 1993 and 1995, he hosted The George Carlin Show, a weekly sitcom.
He provided the narration for the British-American children’s TV series, Thomas & Friends, from 1991 to 1995. Additionally, he had a role in the children’s TV series, Shining Time Station, from 1991 to 1993. Following that, he portrayed Rufus in the films Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
He provided his voice for various animated series, including popular shows like The Simpsons and Car Toons: Mater’s Tall Tales. Additionally, he contributed his vocal talents to movies such as Tarzan II, Cars, and Happily N’Ever After.

In 1971, the charming couple reaffirmed their wedding vows in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. Tragically, in 1997, Brenda, his beloved wife, succumbed to the battle with liver cancer. However, destiny had a new chapter in store for him when he encountered Sally Wade, a talented comedy writer. In 1998, they exchanged vows in an intimate and unofficial ceremony. Their love endured, and they remained devoted to each other until his passing.
