In pursuit of his career, Iggy took his first steps by relocating to Chicago, where he immersed himself in blues music, playing drums in local clubs. Inspired by the vibrant Chicago blues scene and bands like MC5, The Sonics, and The Doors, Iggy Pop formed a band called the “Psychedelic Stooges.” This group included Scott on drums, Dave Alexander on bass, and Ron Asheton on guitar.
Their debut performance took place at a Halloween party in Detroit, Michigan. Iggy assumed the role of lead vocalist for the newly christened band “The Stooges” in 1967. Influenced greatly by Jim Morrison’s stage presence, Iggy developed his own provocative style, often performing shirtless and engaging in daring stage antics that would define his persona for decades to come.
“The Stooges” signed with Elektra Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1969, produced by John Cale in New York. Despite critical acclaim, the album did not achieve commercial success, leading to the band members drifting apart.
