Kim Jong Un’s younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, is a prominent leader in the Workers’ Party of Korea and could potentially become the next leader of North Korea after Kim Jong Un.
Kim Yo Jong has held important roles, including serving as the first vice department director for Propaganda and Agitation in North Korea and being a member of the Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). She gained international attention when she appeared at the 2018 Winter Olympics and also attended meetings with her brother during the denuclearization summits with U.S. President Donald Trump.

She is the daughter of Kim Jong-il and Ko Yong-hui. She grew up with her two brothers, Kim Jong Un and Kim Jong-chul. She also has a half-brother named Kim Jong-nam and a half-sister named Kim Sol-song.
Her father was the second leader of North Korea, and her mother was a Korean-Japanese dancer. To continue her education, she was sent to Switzerland in 1996.
She attended Liebefeld-Hessgut public school and later, Kim Jong-un also went to Liebefeld-Steinhölzli public school. Both of them were enrolled under different names to keep their identities secret. Kim Yo Jong began her political career in 2007 as a junior member of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). She took on a leading role in the party after her aunt was replaced. This change came about following the execution of Kim Kyong-hui’s husband, Jang Song-thaek, in late 2013.
During her brother Kim Jong Un’s rule, Kim Yo Jong served as the acting director of the National Defense Commission. Later, she was appointed as the first vice department director of Propaganda and Agitation in North Korea and also became a member of the Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
She was also appointed as a substitute member of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s political bureau. In the 2019 parliamentary election, she was chosen as a representative for the Killimgil district to the Supreme People’s Assembly.
During the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, she traveled to South Korea to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics. This was the first time a North Korean official had visited South Korea since the end of the Korean War in 1953.
