In 2008, he tried to join JYP Entertainment but was not successful. In 2010, a representative from SM Entertainment discovered him and invited him to train with their company. The following year, in 2011, the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo was formed, and he became its second member.
In 2014, he left Exo due to legal disputes and filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to cancel his contract. Afterward, he transitioned to singing for movies and embarked on a solo music career. In September 2015, he released his first digital album, Reloaded I, followed by his first studio album, Reloaded, in December 2015.
