Ric Ocasek, an American singer and musician, co-founded the rock band the Cars. He gained acclaim for his contributions to the albums “My Best Friend’s Girl” and “Just What I Needed.”

Career / Fashion And Style
Ric and his bandmate Benjamin Orr had previously played together in multiple bands in Columbus and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Upon relocating to Boston, they joined forces to establish a folk-rock band akin to Crosby, Stills, and Nash, which they named Milkwood. In 1973, Ric ventured into a solo career and released his debut album titled “How’s The Weather” under Paramount Records, though it did not achieve any significant chart success.
Together with Orr and keyboardist Greg Hawkes, he co-founded Richard and the Rabbits and also had a musical partnership as an acoustic duo. In 1976, the Cars was established, and during their active years from 1978 to 1988, the band produced a string of chart-topping hits. He assumed the roles of co-vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and lead vocalist.
In 2011, the band unveiled their debut album titled “Move Like This.” He later ventured into record production, working with notable artists including Weezer, Nada Surf, Guided by Voices, Suicide, No Doubt, and Bad Brains. In 1982, he launched his inaugural solo album, “Beatitude.” However, the band disbanded by 1988, and Ric went off the radar for a few years.
In 1993, he released his poetry book titled “Negative Theatre”. As an actor, he made a cameo appearance in the film “Hairspray” directed by John Waters. The band’s most successful album was “Heartbeat City”, which garnered significant commercial success. At the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, the band won “Video of the Year” for their song “You Might Think” from the same album.
