Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. is the birth name of the legendary boxer known as “The Greatest,” Muhammad Ali. He was a former American heavyweight champion who dominated the sport in the 20th century. With his unwavering dedication and fierce determination, Ali claimed numerous championships and earned several prestigious medals.
Throughout his career, he triumphed over numerous formidable opponents in both boxing and wrestling. Ali was renowned not only for his athletic prowess but also for his outspoken stance on race, religion, and politics, which often generated controversy. In addition to his boxing prowess, he possessed a passion for music and even received two Grammy awards for his musical contributions.

Afterward, he immersed himself in intense boxing and weightlifting training. Leading him on the path of boxing was his coach, Joe E. Martin. The unwavering support of his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr., and mother, Odessa O’Grady Clay, always encouraged Ali in his decision.
In 1965, he embraced the Islamic faith and adopted the name “Muhammad Ali.” Despite being American, he and his family experienced racial discrimination. Even after achieving a gold medal at the Summer Olympics, he continued to face racial prejudice. However, instead of succumbing to despair, Ali chose to confront and challenge these injustices. Notably, his daughter Laila also followed in his footsteps and became a skilled boxer.

He commenced his amateur boxing journey in 1954, facing Ronnie O’Keefe in his debut match. Following intense training and relentless efforts, he marked his entry into the professional boxing arena on October 29, 1960, squaring off against Tunney Hunsaker. Additionally, he achieved a remarkable feat in the same year by securing a gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
In 1964, a significant turning point occurred in his career as he emerged victorious in the world heavyweight championship bout against Sonny Liston. Throughout his illustrious journey, he received the esteemed title of “World Heavyweight Champion” on three separate occasions.
He was offered an opportunity to join the U.S. army in 1967, but he declined, leading to subsequent arrest and the confiscation of his boxing titles. His boxing license was also suspended. However, in 1971, he challenged this decision in the U.S. Supreme Court, resulting in the reversal of his conviction. In 1981, he retired from boxing and dedicated himself to social work.
