She started her acting career in 1986 with a small role in the movie Lucas. During this time, she adopted the screen name Winona Ryder. Her breakout role came in the 1988 black comedy film ‘Heathers’, where she played the character Veronica Sawyer.
In 1990, she starred as Kim in the romantic fantasy film ‘Edward Scissorhands’. Her performance in the 1993 film ‘The Age of Innocence’ earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 1999, she served as an executive producer for the drama film ‘Girl, Interrupted’.
